Completion of the Entertainment Giant
We had a tight deadline to get the cabinet finished and installed by early June, so some documentation of the construction process was overlooked in the rush for a timely completion. The entertainment center stood a little over 9 foot tall and was 4.5 feet wide. These dimensions posed a problem for getting the large carcase up to the 30th floor. The largest freight elevator only went up to the 4th floor. In this elevator cab, all the components fit in nicely. But in order to get the carcase from the 4th floor to the 30th floor, Mark would have to devise the building blocks of a platform to fit on top of the elevator cab on which the carcase could ride. We were quite a crew of movers, hotel employees and elevator specialists. Only elevator employees were allowed on top of the cab, so Mark directed them on the installation of his platform device that would allow the large entertainment center body to be slid on top of the cab. When the carcase was finally in place, several people laughed that it seemed like a scenario for Bruce Willis to be hanging down the elevator shaft! The piece was then easily unloaded onto rolling carts and wheeled to the condo unit. With the carcase in place, the doors were hung and the drawers were added. The entertainment center was now home!
